The holiday season became brighter for 168 low-income households in Pasig City after One Meralco Foundation (OMF) provided them with safe and legal access to electricity just in time for Christmas.

OMF, the corporate social responsibility arm of Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco), recently energized the households under its Household Electrification Program. A ceremony was held in Pasig City to mark the milestone, led by Mayor Ma. Regis “Vico” N. Sotto, Meralco Chief Revenue Officer and OMF Trustee Engr. Ferdinand O. Geluz, and Meralco Chief Corporate Social Responsibility Officer and OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao.

Several local officials and Meralco leaders also joined the event, highlighting the strong partnership between the city government and the power distributor in bringing safer electricity services to communities in need.

“At the heart of this initiative is promoting public safety. We all know that using jumpers or submeters is dangerous aside from the fact that submeters are also costly. In my conversations with local officials, Meralco, and One Meralco Foundation, we recognized the need to establish this project so that the electricity service here will finally be safe and legal under Meralco,” Pasig City Mayor Sotto said in Tagalog.

Meralco’s Geluz echoed the company’s commitment to delivering dependable and secure electricity services while working closely with local governments.

“We are here to work with our local government units to help improve the lives of the communities we serve,” he said in Tagalog. “With their support and collaboration, we are confident that more Filipino communities will reap the benefits of our programs.”

For OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao, the project reflects the true spirit of the season and the power of collective action.

"Christmas is indeed brighter in these Pasig households. The colorful lights illuminating these households are not just symbols of the season, but a testament to our shared bayanihan—a commitment to lighting up the path for one another. We are honored to extend this gift of light to our neighbors across Pasig City, empowering them to be more productive and meaningfully contribute to their communities," Tarayao said.

The Household Electrification Program has already energized more than 80,000 households nationwide, helping advance the government’s goal of achieving 100 percent electrification across the Philippines by 2028. Beyond lighting homes, the initiative has enabled families to become more productive and improve their quality of life, bringing lasting impact to thousands of Filipinos.
