At the recently concluded Giga Summit 2025: The Fusion of Power and Intelligence, Manila Electric Company (Meralco) made one thing clear — the future of energy in the Philippines is smart, tech-driven, and already taking shape.
Speaking at the event, Meralco Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer — and Meralco Power Academy (MPA) President — Ronnie L. Aperocho shared how the country’s biggest power distributor is future-proofing its network with the help of artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and analytics.
“We’re building layers upon layers of innovation to keep our distribution network ready for the future — all powered by smart technology and AI,” Aperocho emphasized during his speech.
Meralco isn’t just talking about innovation — they’re already rolling out big projects like the Wireless Private Network (WPN) to boost grid automation and security, the Meralco Data Platform (MDP) to harness big data and AI for smarter operations, and MIDAS, their very own AI-powered interactive assistant, making customer interactions quicker and more efficient.
These initiatives aren’t just about making operations smoother — they’re about making Meralco’s services more sustainable, resilient, and customer-friendly in an ever-evolving energy landscape.
“Our theme, The Fusion of Power and Intelligence, captures the reality that infrastructure and technology must go hand-in-hand with vision, policy, and people,” Aperocho said, driving home the need for a holistic approach to innovation.
The two-day Giga Summit 2025, held last April 24 and 25 at The Fifth at Rockwell in Makati City, gathered industry leaders, policymakers, and experts from here and abroad. Hosted by MPA, the event continues to be one of the premier platforms for sharing the latest innovations and best practices shaping the future of energy.
