MMDA, Ride-Hailing Apps Talk Motorcycle Lanes And EDSA Changes Ahead Of Big Rebuild Project

Big changes are coming to EDSA, and the MMDA is making sure everyone’s in the loop — especially motorcycle riders.

MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes recently sat down with key officials and representatives from motorcycle ride-hailing apps like Grab, Move It, and Angkas to talk about upcoming adjustments on EDSA. These changes are all part of the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) major #EDSARebuild project set to kick off this June.

Joining Chairman Artes in the discussion were LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza, MMDA General Manager Procopio Lipana, and Traffic Discipline Office Director for Enforcement Atty. Victor Nuñez.

One of the first moves? The DPWH will start removing the current bike lane separators along EDSA. That’s because the agency is eyeing a shared lane setup — where both bicycles and motorcycles can safely use the same space. The idea of having a dedicated motorcycle lane on EDSA was also put on the table, alongside suggestions from the ride-hailing companies themselves.

The good news? The meeting was full of positive energy. All the ride-hailing app reps expressed their support for the government’s plans to ease traffic and make commuting along EDSA safer and faster for everyone.

As Metro Manila gears up for this massive infrastructure push, it’s clear that collaboration between government and the private sector is key — especially when thousands of daily motorcycle commuters are in the mix.
