Calvin Oftana is turning up the heat—and it’s fueling TNT’s resurgence in the PBA Philippine Cup.
The versatile forward just clinched his third PBA Press Corps–Pilipinas Live Player of the Week award this season, thanks to another explosive week on the hardwood. From May 7 to 11, Oftana averaged 25 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal per game, helping the Tropang Giga notch back-to-back wins and even their record at 3-3.
Against Terrafirma last Wednesday, Oftana dropped 22 points, grabbed four boards, and swatted three shots in a dominant 110-74 win. He followed that up with a well-rounded performance—28 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block—in a 101-84 blowout of Meralco.
But despite the personal accolades, Oftana is quick to share the spotlight.
“Hindi lang naman ako. Everyone contributed, especially sa rebounding at depensa,” he said. He credited teammate Brian Heruela for bringing much-needed energy off the bench, saying, “Siya 'yung energy guy namin. I talk to him about being that spark when we sub out.”
With import Rondae Hollis-Jefferson out this conference, Oftana has stepped up in the rebounding department, leading a collective effort that has seen TNT outrebound opponents by an average of 8.5 in the last two games.
The 29-year-old former San Beda standout is now in strong contention for the Order of Merit—an end-of-season award given to the most consistent Player of the Week honoree.
