Palace Says More Arrests Likely In Flood Control Probe

Malacañang on Friday said more individuals may face arrest as the government continues its investigation into alleged anomalies in flood control projects, stressing that the probe is still far from over.

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Acting Secretary Dave Gomez said the investigation has been moving faster than previous corruption cases, but emphasized that accountability efforts will continue into the coming months.

“The flood control investigation does not end on Dec. 25. It’s only been a little over four months,” Gomez said.

Gomez made the statement amid comparisons between contractor couple Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya and Cezarah Rowena “Sarah” Discaya and convicted pork barrel scam figure Janet Lim Napoles. He claimed that the Discaya couple’s unexplained wealth is significantly larger than that involved in the Napoles case, though the matter has yet to be resolved by the courts.

“The Napoles probe took almost a year before people were sent to jail. There will surely be more thrown behind bars in the New Year,” he added.

Gomez also noted that, unlike in past corruption scandals, some suspects are already in detention, pointing out that the Discaya couple spent Christmas behind bars.

Meanwhile, PCO Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro reiterated that the Marcos administration remains firm in its anti-corruption drive and is ensuring that investigations are conducted within the bounds of the law.

In a separate statement, Castro said concerned agencies, including the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, are actively gathering evidence to build strong cases against those allegedly involved.

“Rule of law should always be observed, and mere hearsay evidence is generally inadmissible and has no room to be entertained,” Castro said.

She added that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has been clear that no one will be exempt from accountability if found liable.

“President Marcos, Jr. is clear in his pronouncement, ‘Managot ang lahat ng dapat managot,’ whether they are relatives, friends, and allies,” Castro said.

With the investigation set to continue into the new year, Malacañang said further developments—including possible additional arrests—may follow as authorities pursue accountability in the alleged misuse of flood control funds.
