MANILA — Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro went to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Tuesday afternoon, January 13, 2026, to report alleged death threats made against her on Facebook.

“I really have to report this matter because if something happens to me, at least naka-report po ‘yung mga taong nagpapalutang ng ganitong klaseng grave threats,” Castro said, emphasizing the seriousness of the posts, which implied potential physical harm to her life.

Castro added that she has not yet decided whether to file formal charges but wanted to create an official record of the threats. She stressed that freedom of expression “does not justify threats or violence.”

According to NBI spokesperson Palmer Mallari, filing a blotter is the proper first step. The agency’s cybercrime division can authenticate and preserve the posts as evidence, even if they are later deleted from social media.

The reported threats reportedly surfaced following Castro’s previous remark referring to Vice President Sara Duterte as “Chucky,” which some social media users reacted to online.
