The Philippine Basketball Association isn’t just taking a break — it’s gearing up for a full-court relief effort to help families hit hardest by Typhoons Tinio and Uwan.
PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said the league will use its upcoming three-week Philippine Cup break to personally visit devastated provinces and bring help straight to the communities that need it most.
“We want to do our part, kahit sa maliit na paraan,” Marcial shared. “Around ₱4 to ₱5 million ang ibibigay ng PBA.”
Target Areas: Bicol, Cebu, Negros, Catanduanes, Aurora
Marcial said the league is coordinating with local governments in several badly affected areas as they plan to provide construction materials, supplies, and support for rebuilding livelihoods.
Players to Join the Relief Mission
The commissioner also revealed that PBA players themselves will be joining the effort.
“Nakausap na namin yung mga PBA governors,” he said. “Hihiramin namin yung players nila para samahan kami sa proyektong ito.”
Expect PBA stars to travel with league officials as they visit heavily damaged towns and lend a hand on the ground.
Break for a Cause
The PBA break begins Nov. 17, coinciding with Gilas Pilipinas’ preparations for the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers — but this year, that pause will double as a humanitarian mission.
Auctions, Jerseys, and a Special MVP Trophy
The league’s charity push goes hand-in-hand with a major fundraising drive by TV5 and Cignal TV’s Alagang Kapatid Foundation.
On Nov. 14 (Friday), the PBA will auction off signed jerseys, sneakers, and even something historic — the first-ever MVP trophy of June Mar Fajardo, the nine-time MVP.
