President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has issued a directive for a comprehensive government response to tackle the challenges posed by the El Niño and La Niña phenomena in the Philippines.

During the 4th Task Force El Niño meeting held on March 19, key departments were tasked with specific roles to ensure public safety and support affected farmers.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) was instructed to collaborate closely with the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp. (PCIC) to overcome any regulatory barriers hindering prompt financial assistance to affected farmers.

Meanwhile, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-National Water Resources Board (NWRB) and the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) are mandated to gather data on water oversupply and undersupply situations, and devise engineering solutions to mitigate water-related challenges.

Additionally, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) will coordinate with the Department of Health (DOH) to safeguard health facilities from fire hazards.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is also tasked with collaborating with the Department of Tourism (DOT) to address the impact of El Niño on tourist areas, focusing on water availability, energy resources, and public health and safety concerns.

President Marcos Jr.'s directive underscores the government's commitment to ensuring the well-being of its citizens and supporting sectors affected by natural phenomena.
