In a major operation, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) – Port of Clark, working closely with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and other enforcement units, intercepted a staggering 31,250 grams of Methamphetamine Hydrochloride, commonly known as Shabu.

The illicit drugs, valued at P212.5 million, were cunningly concealed within a shipment declared as "routers" from New Jersey, USA.

Upon receiving intelligence from PDEA, the authorities swiftly subjected the incoming shipment, which arrived on March 21, 2024, to rigorous scrutiny including x-ray scanning and K9 inspection. Suspicious findings prompted a physical examination, revealing 29 packs of vacuum-sealed transparent plastic containing crystalline substances suspected to be Shabu.

Chemical laboratory analysis by PDEA confirmed the presence of Methamphetamine Hydrochloride, a dangerous substance under R.A. No. 9165. A Warrant of Seizure and Detention was promptly issued against the shipment, citing violations of various sections of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) in connection with R.A. No. 9165.

District Collector Erastus Sandino Austria commended the collaborative efforts of PDEA, Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force (CAIDTF), Enforcement and Security Service (ESS), Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS), and X-ray Inspection Project (XIP) for their relentless commitment to combating drug smuggling. This seizure marks the largest drug apprehension at the Port of Clark in a single shipment since 2020.

BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio reaffirmed the agency's dedication to fortifying the nation's borders and reiterated their continuous partnership with PDEA and other agencies to thwart the influx of illegal drugs, in alignment with the directives of the President.
