PH Athletes Strike Gold At SEA Games

The Philippines kicked off its campaign at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games with a strong golden start, as Filipino athletes delivered back-to-back victories across rowing, kickboxing, and gymnastics.
Paris 2024 Olympian Joanie Delgaco teamed up with Kristine Paraon to capture the country’s first gold medal of the day in Women’s Rowing Double Sculls. The Filipino duo powered through the course and crossed the finish line first with a time of 8:16.976, edging out Thailand, which settled for silver at 8:21.634, while Vietnam claimed bronze with 8:26.447.
Momentum continued in the kickboxing arena as Zyra Bon-As showcased grit and composure in a tightly contested bout against home favorite Jantakarn Manoban. Bon-As emerged victorious, 2-1, in the Women’s 48kg division, adding another gold medal to the Philippines’ growing tally at the SEA Games in Thailand.
The golden run did not stop there. Seventeen-year-old Jasmine Althea Ramilo dazzled the crowd with a poised and confident performance in Women’s Rhythmic Gymnastics Individual All-Around. Her routine earned top honors, sealing yet another gold for the Philippines and highlighting the country’s rising young talent on the regional stage.
