PH Flag Flies Proud Over Talampas Ng Pilipinas - With A Fly-By To Match
In a bold and symbolic display of pride and purpose, the Philippine flag was raised high on May 18, 2025, aboard the BRP Emilio Jacinto (PS-35)—right at Talampas ng Pilipinas, the vast undersea plateau east of Luzon you might remember as Benham Rise.
This wasn’t just any flag ceremony. It was led by the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Northern Luzon Command and Naval Forces Northern Luzon, and it came with flair: two Philippine Air Force aircraft swooped overhead in a dramatic fly-by that gave everyone goosebumps.
The moment marked eight years since the area was officially renamed to Talampas ng Pilipinas under Executive Order No. 25, a reminder that this underwater region—while not sovereign territory in the usual sense—is very much within our country’s exclusive rights to explore and use.
The event’s theme, “Our Seas, Our Rights, Our Future,” echoed through the sea breeze, reinforcing the country’s stand to protect the area’s marine wealth—not just for today’s needs, but for the generations to come.
So, while we’re not planting flags on foreign soil, this act was just as meaningful. It sent a clear message: The Philippines knows its rights, values its natural resources, and is ready to defend them.
And with that fly-by? You could say the message was loud and clear
