PH Strengthens Global Friendships As President Marcos Welcomes New Envoys From Chile And China

Malacañang played host to a warm diplomatic moment on Thursday as President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. officially welcomed the newly designated ambassadors of Chile and China during a formal presentation of credentials ceremony.
President Marcos received the letters of credence from Chile’s new ambassador, Felipe Alejandro Diaz Ibañez, and China’s new envoy, Jing Quan, expressing optimism about the future of the Philippines’ relations with both nations.
The President said he was pleased to see Ambassador Diaz return to the Philippines, where he previously served as consul from 2003 to 2008. Marcos noted that Chile has long been a friend of the country, and he expects the partnership to grow even stronger.
“We are happy that an old friend of the Philippines has returned,” the President said. “The long and very fine relationship between our two countries will continue, and we hope to build an even closer bond.”
Turning to Ambassador Jing Quan, President Marcos emphasized China’s importance as one of the Philippines’ key partners on the global stage. He expressed hope that both countries can build on their cooperation while managing any differences with openness and respect.
“There will be many opportunities for us to make the relationship between our two countries stronger and deeper as the years go by,” he said. “Our differences should be the exception, not the norm.”
Both ambassadors pledged their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and deepening cooperation with the Philippines.
Presenting credentials is a traditional step for new envoys, symbolizing their government’s trust in them and marking the formal start of their diplomatic mission. Chile and the Philippines established diplomatic relations in 1946, while formal ties between the Philippines and China began in 1975.
With new envoys now officially welcomed, the Marcos administration looks forward to renewed momentum in building friendships and fostering international cooperation.
