In response to recent skirmishes, the Philippine Army (PA) has issued a statement regarding the series of firefights against Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) remnants in Abra. The clashes, occurring between April 2 and 3, took place on the border of Barangay Nagcanasan, Pilar, Abra, and Barangay Babalasioan, Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur.

Elements of the 50th Infantry Battalion, 5th Infantry Division, acting on intelligence from local residents, engaged in security operations in the area. The firefight ensued as they encountered members of the weakened CTG's North Abra Guerrilla Front (KLG North Abra), Ilocos Cordillera Regional Committee (ICRC).

Additionally, the PA is working closely with local government units to support the 113 families who fled their homes due to the threat of reprisal from CTG remnants, ensuring the provision of food and essential items.

Colonel Louie G. Dema-Ala, MNSA (INF), PA Army Spokesperson and Chief Public Affairs, emphasized the Army's commitment to using necessary force to safeguard communities against the continued terrorism and violence espoused by the CPP-NPA.
