Tensions escalated in the South China Sea this morning as Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessel, MRRV 4409, found itself encircled by one China Coast Guard vessel and two China Maritime Militia Vessels. The aggressive maneuvering of the Chinese maritime forces has sparked concerns over adherence to international maritime regulations.

Despite efforts to maintain safety protocols outlined in the Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGS), the Chinese vessels exhibited irresponsible behavior, isolating MRRV 4409 from necessary resupply operations.

Another incident unfolded near Ayungin Shoal, as the Philippine supply vessel Unaizah May 4 faced direct water cannoning by two China Coast Guard vessels. The sustained assault resulted in heavy damages to the UM4 supply boat, raising alarms over the safety of Philippine maritime assets in the region.
