The Philippines just scored another international win—and this time, it’s all about making people feel at home.
On Monday, the Department of Tourism (DOT) welcomed the country’s recognition as Asia’s Best Retirement Destination at the 11th TripZilla Excellence Awards, calling it a strong sign that the Philippines is fast becoming a top choice for retirees around the world.
Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco said the award reflects what many already know: the Philippines isn’t just a vacation hotspot—it’s a place people can truly settle down in.
“This award affirms what the global community increasingly sees—the Philippines is not only a beautiful place to visit, but a place to call home,” Frasco said.
According to her, retirees are drawn not just by white-sand beaches and scenic views, but by something deeper—the Filipino culture of care, warmth, and compassion. From friendly communities to a population that speaks English widely, the country offers comfort and ease for those looking to enjoy their retirement years.
Frasco also assured that the DOT will continue improving programs and services designed specifically for retirees, making their stay smoother and more fulfilling.
“Beyond its globally renowned natural beauty, the Philippines continues to stand out because of its welcoming communities, favorable climate, and internationally recognized healthcare facilities,” she added.
These advantages have made the country especially attractive to foreign retirees as well as overseas Filipinos who want to come home for good.
Earlier this year, the DOT teamed up with the Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA) to further enhance the Special Resident Retiree’s Visa (SRRV) program—one of the government’s key incentives for retirees choosing the Philippines.
PRA General Manager Roberto Zozobrado said the agency recently rolled out its “WE CARE” campaign, short for We Create an Amazing Retirement Experience, aimed at strengthening the country’s position in the global retirement market.
“The Philippines offers something truly rare—retirement that feels like coming home,” Zozobrado said.
As of this year, the Philippines is already home to more than 83,000 SRRV holders, a number that’s expected to grow as more retirees discover what life in the country has to offer.
