Power Up: Meralco Boosts Electricity Service In Taguig And Makati With Substation Upgrade
Contributed Photo
Big things are happening behind the scenes to keep the lights on in two of Metro Manila’s busiest hubs.
Meralco, the country’s largest power distributor led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, just completed a major upgrade at its Fort Bonifacio Global City-2 Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Substation. This move is all about meeting the rising electricity demands in booming areas like Taguig City and Makati City—especially in commercial and residential zones that never seem to sleep.
So, what exactly did they do? Meralco installed a powerful 83 megavolt ampere (MVA) transformer and a 34.5 kilovolt (kV) GIS to better handle electricity load and improve service reliability. That means fewer outages and more consistent power for everyone, from high-rise condos to hospitals and government offices.
Among the big names that will benefit from this upgrade? Think Department of Energy, St. Luke’s Medical Center, Philippine National Oil Company, Market! Market!, and Serendra. Yep, they’re all in the zone.
This upgrade is part of Meralco’s ongoing commitment to invest in infrastructure that ensures safe, steady, and future-ready power for its customers. As urban centers like BGC and Makati keep expanding, Meralco says it’s ready to keep up with the pace.
Needless to say, a little behind-the-scenes power boost goes a long way—especially in the heart of the metro.
