President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. spearheaded the ceremonial energization of the Cebu-Negros-Panay (CNP) sub-grids on Monday, marking a significant stride in addressing the longstanding power supply issues in the island region.

The event, held in Bacolod City, also saw President Marcos urging energy stakeholders and private generators to ramp up investments in Negros and Panay's energy infrastructure to cater to the region's growing power needs and spur development.

During the ceremony, President Marcos emphasized the importance of strategic investments in new baseload generation plants, renewable energy, and energy storage systems to ensure long-term energy sufficiency and sustainability in Negros and Panay Islands. He stressed the collaborative efforts of government agencies, local government units, and private entities in expediting permit issuance for energy projects and facilitating right-of-way acquisition for transmission lines and distribution systems.

President Marcos hailed the completion of the CNP 230-kV Backbone Project by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) as a milestone in enhancing the country's energy resilience and reliability. The project resolves power supply challenges that have hindered regional economic growth, particularly in Negros and Panay, while also addressing surging energy demands and propelling socio-economic advancement in Western and Central Visayas.

With an estimated population of about 16 million, the President emphasized the necessity of adequate power supply to support the region's economic expansion. He underlined the indispensable role of reliable electricity in fostering economic development, asserting that no region can achieve economic prowess without a dependable power infrastructure.

In addition to overseeing the ceremonial energization, President Marcos conducted an aerial inspection of the Bacolod-Gahit Transmission Line and a site inspection of the Bacolod Substation, reaffirming the government's commitment to enhancing energy infrastructure in the region.

The CNP 230-kV Backbone Project, with a total cost of P67.9 billion, comprises CNP1, CNP2, CNP3, and Negros-Panay Interconnection Project Line 2 (NPIP L2), aimed at strengthening the grid and improving power transmission reliability in Cebu, Negros, and Panay. The project will facilitate increased transfer capacity among the islands and accommodate the development of new power plants in the Visayas grid.

NGCP, as the country's sole transmission service provider, plays a pivotal role in ensuring reliable and efficient electric power transmission from generation to distribution utilities and grid-connected loads.
