President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. gave his stamp of approval on Thursday to the proposed Basic Education Development Plan (BEDP) 2030 and the MATATAG Agenda of the Department of Education (DepEd), under the leadership of Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte.

The decision was made during a National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board meeting held at the Malacañan Palace. President Marcos emphasized the significance of these proposals to the country’s education system, expressing no objections to the plans presented by DepEd.

“The [NEDA] board approves the adoption of the Basic Education Development Plan 2023 and MATATAG Agenda as a national policy and plan for basic education,” remarked President Marcos, who also chairs the NEDA Board.

Vice President Duterte personally presented the BEDP 2030 and the MATATAG Agenda during the NEDA Board meeting, highlighting their essential role in shaping the future of education in the Philippines.

The MATATAG Agenda comprises four critical components aimed at enhancing the educational landscape: Making the curriculum relevant; Taking steps to accelerate the delivery of basic education facilities and services; Taking good care of learners by promoting learner well-being, inclusive education, and a positive learning environment; and Giving support to teachers to be able to teach better.

DepEd’s BEDP 2030 and the MATATAG Agenda align closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 4, which focuses on providing quality education for all. Furthermore, they are consistent with the nation's long-term vision, AmBisyon Natin 2040, and the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028, as affirmed by the NEDA Board.
