In response to frequent class suspensions due to scorching temperatures in parts of the nation, the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is contemplating a return to the previous school calendar.

President Marcos expressed his administration's concerns, stating, "We may face further difficulties. However, we will find ways to expedite the return to the normal schedule for the children."

Speaking at the "Bagong Pilipinas Town Hall Meeting on Traffic Concerns" in San Juan City, President Marcos acknowledged the proposal to revert to the old academic calendar, indicating a consensus on its potential benefits. He emphasized the administration's commitment to exploring this option, stating, "We want to return to the previous schedule if possible. There seems to be a consensus that the old schedule was better."

The suggestion to shift back to the former calendar, where classes commenced from June to March with a break in April and May, aims to mitigate the impact of extreme summer heat on schools across the country.

President Marcos attributed the prevailing heatwave to the effects of climate change, affirming that his administration is actively addressing environmental concerns.
