The Philippine stock market ended the week on a sharp downturn, with the benchmark index sliding deeper into negative territory amid broad-based selling.
On December 19, 2025, the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) closed at 5,920.87, dropping 110.61 points or 1.83 percent. The decline marked one of the steeper losses in recent sessions as investors pulled back from riskier positions.
Trading activity was heavier compared to the previous day, with total value turnover reaching PHP 18.6 billion. Market breadth clearly tilted to the downside, as 110 stocks declined against just 65 gainers, while 75 issues ended unchanged.
Foreign investors remained cautious, registering net selling for the session. Foreign buying amounted to Php 8.01 billion, while foreign selling slightly exceeded it at Php 8.12 billion, resulting in net foreign selling of Php 103.39 million.
Analysts said the drop reflects continued investor caution, with profit-taking and concerns over both local and global developments weighing on sentiment. With the index now below the 6,000 level, market watchers expect volatility to persist as investors look for fresh catalysts in the coming trading days.
