The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) is set to spark excitement across the country as it brings top-tier volleyball action closer to regional fans through the much-anticipated PVL on Tour, kicking off this Sunday, June 22, in Vigan, Ilocos Sur.
Far from being just a warm-up, the tour is shaping up to mirror the intensity and drama of the regular season. With a packed schedule running through July 29, fans can expect high-level competition as teams look to fine-tune their rosters, test strategies, and build momentum ahead of the official season start.
PVL President Ricky Palou emphasized that the tour is not only about expanding the league’s geographic reach but also serves a deeper purpose: strengthening the national team’s preparation for upcoming international competitions, particularly the Southeast Asian Games in Thailand this December.
“This tour is about connecting with our regional fans and helping the national team gear up for bigger battles,” said Palou. “It’s also a stage for clubs to evaluate their new recruits and recalibrate strategies before the main season.”
Aside from the FilOil EcoOil Centre in Metro Manila, matches will take place in Batangas City, Ilagan City (Isabela), and Passi City (Iloilo), demonstrating PVL’s ongoing commitment to nationwide development of the sport.
The tournament features 12 teams divided into two pools, each stacked with talent. Pool A includes Petro Gazz, Choco Mucho, PLDT, Galeries Tower, Farm Fresh, and Nxled. Pool B boasts volleyball heavyweights like Creamline, Chery Tiggo, Cignal, Akari, ZUS Coffee, and Capital1.
The format promises plenty of surprises. A single round-robin elimination round determines the top two teams from each pool, who will secure direct spots in the quarterfinals. The remaining teams, ranked third to sixth, will battle through knockout play-in matches for the final quarterfinal berths. From there, it’s a series of win-or-go-home encounters, culminating in a championship that also offers slots to the PVL Invitational in August — where teams will test themselves against two guest squads.
Opening day in Vigan features two explosive matchups: Akari vs. Cignal at 4:00 p.m. and Creamline vs. Capital1 at 6:30 p.m. The excitement continues the next day with Cignal facing the Solar Spikers and the Cool Smashers squaring off against the Chargers.
Next stop: Batangas City on June 28, where fans will witness Choco Mucho clash with Galeries Tower, followed by Nxled facing off against defending champion Petro Gazz. The following day, the Angels will go up against the Highrisers, while the Flying Titans challenge the Chameleons.
With every leg of the tour offering new matchups and unfamiliar settings, the PVL on Tour sets the stage for a dynamic and unpredictable showcase of athleticism, team chemistry, and rising stars.
