Rainy Skies Ahead: Low Pressure Area And Southwest Monsoon To Bring Rains Over Much Of The Philippines

As of 4:00 PM today, June 23, 2025, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s latest 24-hour public weather forecast highlights continued rainy weather for many parts of the country.
A Low Pressure Area (LPA) was last spotted around 185 kilometers west of Cubi Point in Subic Bay. While this LPA is still outside the Philippine landmass, it is already influencing local weather, particularly over parts of Central Luzon, including Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan. Residents in these areas can expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms. With moderate to occasionally heavy downpours, flash floods and landslides remain a possibility.
Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon (locally known as Habagat) continues to affect a large portion of the country. This monsoon system is currently bringing widespread cloudiness and rain over Metro Manila, CALABARZON, the Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, Negros Occidental, and the rest of Central Luzon. Like areas affected by the LPA, these regions should also prepare for possible flash floods and landslides due to intermittent heavy rainfall.
The remaining parts of Luzon and the rest of the country are expected to experience generally fair weather, but isolated rain showers and thunderstorms remain likely, particularly in the afternoon or evening. These could still lead to sudden flooding or landslides in susceptible areas, especially during severe thunderstorms.
In related weather news, Tropical Storm Sepat—currently located far outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR)—is not expected to affect local weather directly. As of 3:00 PM, it was positioned about 2,315 kilometers east-northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon, moving north-northwestward at 30 km/h with sustained winds of 65 km/h and gusts of up to 80 km/h.
PAGASA advises the public to stay alert for weather updates and to monitor official advisories, especially in areas prone to flooding or landslides.
