Fifteen power generation companies are stepping up to compete for Manila Electric Company’s (Meralco) 200-megawatt renewable energy baseload requirement, signaling strong interest in the utility’s latest Competitive Selection Process (CSP).

The companies officially joined the bidding after taking part in the pre-bid conference held on January 15, 2026. These include major industry players such as ACEN Corporation, AP Renewable Energy Corporation, Bac-Man Geothermal Inc., Energy Development Corporation, First Gen Hydro Power Corporation, GNPower Kauswagan Ltd. Co., GNPower Mariveles Energy Center Ltd. Co., Green Core Geothermal Inc., Mariveles Power Generation Corporation, Negros Island Solar Power Inc., SanMar Solar Inc., Sinocalan Solar Power Corporation, Sual Power Inc., Therma Luzon Inc., and Therma Visayas Inc.

Meralco welcomed the strong turnout, saying it reflects growing confidence in the CSP process. “The strong interest from the participating power generation companies affirms the effectiveness of the CSP as a mechanism for securing sufficient and least-cost supply for our customers,” said Meralco Bids and Awards Committee Chairman Lawrence S. Fernandez. He added that the company is looking forward to receiving formal bids by the February 16 submission deadline.

The winning bidder will secure a Power Supply Agreement to provide Meralco with 200 MW of renewable energy baseload, helping the utility meet its Renewable Portfolio Standards starting January 26, 2026. The agreement will still need approval from the Energy Regulatory Commission.

Meralco emphasized that the bidding is part of its DOE-approved annual Power Supply Procurement Plan and is being carried out through an open and transparent process, in line with government rules and regulations.
