300,000 New Beep Cards To Arrive Next Week - DOTr Warns Hoarders: 'We'll Catch You'

Commuters tired of the endless hunt for beep cards may finally breathe a sigh of relief. Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has announced that an additional 300,000 regular beep cards will be made available across MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2 starting next week—effectively ending the shortage that has frustrated thousands of passengers.
“By next week, we will no longer have a shortage of beep cards. Beep Card will be completing the delivery of 300,000 additional cards across the train lines. That’s the number we computed to fill the gap,” Dizon assured. The move follows a direct order from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to resolve the shortage quickly so passengers can avoid unnecessary delays and inconvenience.
But along with the good news came a strong warning. Dizon revealed that certain groups have been hoarding beep cards, then reselling them at inflated prices—up to ₱300 each.
“There are syndicates buying in bulk at the stations. We are coordinating with the PNP and SAICT to monitor every station, catch these people, and have them arrested,” Dizon declared.
The Department of Transportation is also working with online selling platforms to take down groups and sellers offering beep cards at overpricing.
For daily commuters, next week’s arrival of fresh stocks might just mean fewer headaches, shorter lines—and no more overpriced beep cards from shady resellers.
