5.0-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Ilocos Norte; No Damage Reported

Residents in Ilocos Norte experienced tremors on the afternoon of October 17, 2025, when a magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck near Burgos. The quake, originating from a depth of 10 kilometers, was classified as tectonic in origin.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the strongest shaking (Intensity III) was reported in Burgos and Bangui. Nearby towns such as Bacarra, Pasuquin, and San Nicolas in Ilocos Norte, and Sinait in Ilocos Sur felt Intensity II tremors. Instrumental readings also recorded Intensity III in Bacarra and Intensity I in the City of Vigan, Ilocos Sur.

Authorities have confirmed that no damage is expected, but residents should remain alert as aftershocks are likely.

The earthquake occurred at 4:31 PM local time, approximately 13 kilometers north of Pagudpud. Local disaster response teams continue to monitor the situation and advise the public to follow standard earthquake safety procedures.
