6.2 Quake Rocks Siargao, Shakes Parts Of Visayas And Mindanao Early Friday

Residents of Siargao woke up to a strong jolt early Friday morning as a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck off the coast of General Luna, Surigao del Norte, at around 7:03 a.m., according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The tremor’s epicenter was located 21 kilometers east of General Luna — a popular surfing destination — sending residents and tourists rushing out of their homes and resorts.
PHIVOLCS recorded Instrumental Intensity IV (moderately strong shaking) in several areas, including Cabadbaran City in Agusan del Norte, Surigao City in Surigao del Norte, and parts of Southern Leyte such as Hinunangan, San Francisco, Hinundayan, and Silago.
No tsunami warning or major damage has been reported so far, but authorities remind residents to stay alert for possible aftershocks.
