Alas Pilipinas closed out the first leg of the 2025 Southeast Asia V.League with a statement, securing a bronze medal after a hard-fought 25-20, 25-20, 16-25, 25-13 victory over Indonesia on Sunday afternoon.
With the podium on the line, Alas PIlipinas shrugged off back-to-back losses to powerhouses Thailand and Vietnam, delivering a composed and commanding performance—particularly in the fourth set—to clinch their third straight third-place finish in the tournament.
It was a fitting end to their opening leg campaign. After three tightly contested sets, the national team roared to life in the fourth, unleashing an 18-6 run that silenced Indonesia’s rally and sent the local crowd into celebration. Every point was met with thunderous applause, as Alas Pilipinas put together their most complete set of the tournament when it mattered most.
The match didn't start in their favor. Indonesia had control early in the first set, building a 13-8 lead midway. But the Filipinas refused to be rattled. Led by the front-row firepower of Dell Palomata, Angel Canino, Alyssa Solomon, and Fifi Sharma, they clawed back to level the score at 13-all. The shift in momentum proved critical, with Canino and Sharma combining to spark a 9-5 finishing stretch that sealed the opening frame.
Riding that wave of momentum, Alas Pilipinas surged to a five-point cushion early in the second set and maintained their grip with tight net defense and quick offensive transitions. The cohesion and chemistry of the squad were on full display as they moved to a 2-0 set lead.
But as often happens in high-stakes matches, Indonesia responded. The Filipinas faltered in the third, committing eight unforced errors that allowed their opponents to take control. Unable to recover, they dropped the set and saw the match extend to a fourth.
Still, there was no panic—just focus.
Alas Pilipinas returned to form in the final set with renewed energy and sharp execution. Turning defense into quick points, they raced ahead behind another inspired effort from Canino and Sharma at the net, while Solomon and Eya Laure delivered the finishing blows. The 25-13 score in the fourth told the story of a team that knew exactly what it wanted—and how to get it.
With the bronze secured, the national squad now sets its sights on the second leg of the SEA V.League, scheduled for August 8 to 10 in Vietnam. There, they aim to build on this performance, break through the bronze ceiling, and make a stronger push for gold.
