Filipina tennis star Alexandra “Alex” Eala suffered a tough defeat on Tuesday, losing 6-1, 6-2 to Czech teen Tereza Valentova in the Round of 32 of the Japan Women’s Open.

Valentova, 18, dominated the match from the start, racing to a 4-0 lead in the first set before Eala managed to win her first game. The second set saw a similar pattern, with Valentova jumping ahead 3-0. Eala fought back briefly, taking a game, but Valentova quickly regained control and eventually sealed the victory. The win extended Valentova’s streak in the tournament to three matches, including her two qualifying round victories.

This loss comes just days after Eala bowed out in the first round of the Wuhan Open qualifiers on October 4, losing to Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima.

Despite the back-to-back setbacks, Eala is already looking ahead and is expected to compete next week at the Guangzhou Open in China.

The young Filipina continues to gain valuable experience on the professional tour, aiming to climb the rankings and make her mark in international tennis.
