What a day for Alex Eala! The young Filipino tennis star had to power through not just one, but two tough matches in a single day to punch her ticket to the semifinals of the Guadalajara Open.
First up, Eala staged a gritty comeback against former world No. 19 Varvara Lepchenko. After dropping the opening set in a tiebreak, 6-7 (3), she clawed her way back to win the next two sets, 7-6 (3), 6-3, in their rain-delayed Round-of-16 battle.
But there was no time to celebrate—Eala had another opponent waiting. Just hours later, she took on Italy’s Nicole Fossa Huergo and showed no signs of fatigue, cruising to a 7-6 (2), 6-2 victory.
