MANILA, Philippines — July 22, 2025 — As heavy rains from the southwest monsoon continue to inundate many parts of Luzon, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is working tirelessly to bring electricity service back to affected customers.

Meralco reported that, as of 7:00 AM today, around 167,000 customers are experiencing power outages, with the majority located in Metro Manila, Bulacan, and Cavite. Smaller numbers of affected customers have also been recorded in Rizal, Laguna, Batangas, and Quezon. The company noted that nearly 98 percent of these customers live in areas currently under floodwaters, which has made restoration efforts more challenging.

Joe R. Zaldarriaga, Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications, assured the public that crews are ready to respond as soon as conditions allow. “We ask our customers for patience and understanding as heavy floods have triggered disruptions in power services. Rest assured that the safety of our customers and line crews is our top priority, and we will immediately restore power in the affected areas once the floodwaters recede and it is safe to do so,” he said.

Meralco emphasized the importance of taking proper electrical safety precautions, especially in flooded areas. Customers are reminded to switch off power at the main electrical panel before coming into contact with any wiring or equipment, and to ensure that electrical installations and appliances are completely dry before use. Appliances and wiring damaged by floods should only be inspected and restored by licensed electricians.

Zaldarriaga also encouraged customers to keep communication lines open and devices fully charged to stay updated on developments and to report outages or emergencies. Meralco may be reached through its official Facebook page, Twitter account, hotline 16211, or via text at 0920-9716211 and 0917-5516211.

Meralco crews continue to monitor the weather and flooding situation closely and remain on standby to restore power safely and efficiently once conditions improve.
