Government efforts to crack down on large-scale corruption intensified as the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) confirmed that a total of ₱12 billion worth of assets have been frozen as part of an ongoing investigation involving several public officials and private individuals.
According to initial findings, the frozen assets include Zaldy Co’s ₱4 billion worth of air assets, along with 3,566 bank accounts, 198 insurance policies, 247 vehicles, 178 real properties, and 16 e-wallets. Authorities say these figures highlight the scale of the financial activities now under scrutiny.
The Inter-Agency Coordinating Council (ICI) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) are also preparing to submit evidence to the Office of the Ombudsman. The documents will support possible charges of plunder, graft, bribery, and conflict of interest against eight lawmakers who allegedly own construction companies involved in government projects.
In a firm statement on the ongoing probe, a government official reiterated a zero-tolerance stance against corruption: “And my position is clear, I don't negotiate with criminals. Whatever video Zaldy Co releases, his passport will still be cancelled. No one can escape justice.”
The official added that the campaign against corruption will press on without exception. “The work continues. The clean up continues. For the money of the people, for the people of the people.”
