The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has taken swift action against Baguio City's District Engineer, Rene Zarate, suspending him as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged document tampering.

This move follows an order from Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon for all central, regional, and district offices to submit documents to the newly formed Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI). The order came after the Secretary received reports of potential destruction or alteration of public documents related to DPWH projects in the Baguio City District Engineering Office.

Secretary Dizon's directive aims to ensure full transparency and cooperation with the ICI's investigation into various flood control and other infrastructure projects. Engineer Zarate's suspension was issued after he reportedly failed to comply with the Secretary's order to assist in the investigation.

This suspension is a strong signal that the department is serious about accountability. The Secretary has made it clear that failure to follow orders from his office or the ICI will result in penalties and further action.
