Big Players Line Up As Meralco Seeks New Green Power Supply

Meralco is drawing strong interest from the energy sector as it looks to secure more reliable — and greener — power for its customers.
The power distributor announced that 15 power generation companies have already signaled interest in joining its Competitive Selection Process (CSP) for a 200-megawatt baseload supply, which will help Meralco meet requirements under the country’s Renewable Portfolio Standards.
All in all, these companies offered a combined capacity of 725 MW — way more than what’s being bid out.
A pre-bid conference is set for January 15, 2026, while companies that want to formally compete for the contract must submit their bids by February 16, 2026.
Meralco BAC-PSA Chairman Lawrence S. Fernandez said the strong turnout shows trust in Meralco’s procurement process.
He added that the company is hoping to receive competitive, compliant, and affordable offers — all aimed at delivering reliable, sustainable, and least-cost electricity to consumers.
Fernandez also emphasized that Meralco, being a highly regulated utility, remains committed to transparency and fairness throughout the selection process.
The winning bidder will enter into a four-year power supply agreement starting January 26, 2026, subject to approval from the Energy Regulatory Commission.
Looks like the race is on — and competition could mean more stable and cleaner power for millions of Meralco customers.
