Former Vice President Jejomar Binay and his son, former Makati City Mayor Junjun Binay, have been acquitted by the Sandiganbayan in connection with the alleged irregularities surrounding the ₱2.2-billion Makati City Hall Parking Building 2 project.

The ruling came from the Special Third Division of the anti-graft court, which handed down its decision after years of trial. According to the dispositive portion read in court, the Binays were found not guilty on multiple counts filed by the Office of the Ombudsman back in 2016.

In a related move, the clerk of court of the Sandiganbayan’s Special Fifth Division confirmed that all 23 cases tied to the project were dismissed due to the prosecution’s failure to prove its allegations. As a result, the court also lifted the hold departure order previously issued against the accused.

This acquittal follows a similar development earlier this year. In January 2025, the Special Fifth Division likewise dismissed graft charges against the Binays involving the construction of the Makati Science High School building, citing lack of sufficient evidence.

With these decisions, the long-standing legal battles of the Binays over the city’s major infrastructure projects have now been decisively resolved in their favor.
