Bong Go Stands Firm, Says Delicadeza Is His Guiding Principle In Public Service

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go faced the media on Thursday, October 16, with calm confidence as he addressed allegations linking him to supposed irregularities in flood-control projects. His message was simple but strong: “Let the facts speak for themselves. Wala po akong itinatago.”
Go, known for his humble roots in Mindanao, said the Filipino value of delicadeza — or moral integrity — has been his compass throughout his years in government service.
“Mula noon hanggang ngayon, ang pinanghahawakan ko po ay delicadeza. Bilang isang probinsiyano na taga-Mindanao, Batangueñong Bisaya, pangalan ko lang po ang aking pinanghahawakan,” he said.
The senator reiterated that he would never waste the trust given to him by the Filipino people.
“Hindi ko po sasayangin ‘yung tiwala at boto na ibinigay po ng taumbayan. Ginawa ninyo akong number one, hindi ko sasayangin ‘yung tiwalang ‘yan,” he added.
Go emphasized that he welcomes any investigation into the allegations, saying he has nothing to hide.
“Wala po akong kinakatakutan dahil wala akong kasalanan. Hindi ako sangkot sa anumang anomalya. Ang aking tungkulin ay maglingkod sa bayan,” he said firmly.
Acknowledging his close ties with former President Rodrigo Duterte, Go admitted that being in such a position has made him an easy target for political attacks and name-dropping. Still, he said he’s always drawn a clear line between public duty and private interests.
“Noong naging mayor si Tatay Digong, isa lang po ang ipinakiusap ko noon: kapag pumasok ‘yung kamag-anak ko sa government transaction sa city hall, I will resign. Pag pumasok sila sa Malacañang, I will resign. Dahil I observe delicadeza,” he recalled.
Go ended his statement by affirming that his reputation — built on honesty and integrity — is the only thing he truly owns in public life.
“Iyan lang po ang puhunan ko rito — delicadeza.”
