Bulacan 6th District Representative Salvador A. Pleyto Sr. has denied allegations linking him to supposed remittances from the Discaya couple, following reports that his name was mentioned in a document cited by Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla.
In a statement on Thursday, Pleyto said he was made aware of Remulla’s remarks referencing an Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) report that allegedly includes his name.
“I strongly condemn these accusations and insinuations against me,” Pleyto said.
He clarified that he was not yet a congressman at the time the alleged transactions took place and emphasized that he has no involvement in any irregular activity.
To clear his name, Pleyto said he is formally requesting an official copy of the AMLC report or any related document where his name appears.
“In the interest of truth, accountability, and due process, I am formally requesting the AMLC to provide an official copy of the said report or any related document in which my name was mentioned or implicated, so I can properly and responsibly address any findings or insinuations,” he said.
The lawmaker also vowed full cooperation with the AMLC and other investigating agencies, stressing that transparency is his top priority.
“For the sake of transparency, I am ready to cooperate with the AMLC or any other competent authorities to ensure that the truth will come out so I can clear my name,” Pleyto added.
He appealed to the public to avoid spreading unverified claims, saying such actions could harm his personal and professional reputation.
“Until such time that I have a copy of the official report from the AMLC, I urge the public to refrain from drawing conclusions or spreading unverified information that may cause undue harm to my personal reputation, both as a private person and a public servant,” he said.
As of this writing, the AMLC has not issued an official statement regarding the allegations mentioned by the Ombudsman.
