Business And Advocacy Groups Demand Action To End Corruption In Public Works

Thirty business and advocacy organizations have issued a strong joint statement condemning what they describe as rampant and continuing corruption in government projects, particularly in public works.

The coalition expressed “outrage, disgust, and disappointment” over alleged large-scale graft involving officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), local government units (LGUs), the Commission on Audit (COA), and several legislators.

“Our call is not just to moderate your greed. Our collective call to these corrupt officials is: please stop. Maawa naman kayo sa mga naghihirap na taong bayan,” the statement said.

The groups urged the creation of an independent body to investigate, prosecute, and recover stolen public funds. They warned that corruption is a betrayal of public trust and a treasonous act against the Filipino people, particularly those living in poverty.

While noting recent pronouncements from the President against corruption, the organizations expressed concern that dishonest officials will continue to operate with impunity, enriching themselves while neglecting the public interest.

In response, the coalition pledged to help identify those involved in corruption, support voter education to promote honest leadership, gather evidence for legal action, and encourage financial institutions to detect and report illicit wealth.

The statement was signed by 30 business and advocacy groups, including the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP), the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP), the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), and the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX), among others.
