PASAY CITY — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is investigating the cause of a false fire alarm that briefly disrupted air traffic operations early Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at its Air Traffic Management (ATM) Center.
According to CAAP, the alarm was triggered at around 1:24 a.m., prompting the activation of contingency and safety protocols, including a temporary hold on flight departures. Operations gradually normalized by 2:50 a.m., with all restrictions lifted at 3:16 a.m.
The brief disruption caused delays for 59 commercial and cargo flights, averaging about 45 minutes each, while seven arriving flights were also affected.
CAAP Director General Retired Lt. Gen. Raul Del Rosario commended the quick action of air traffic personnel, emphasizing that safety remained the agency’s top priority throughout the incident.
“We commend our air traffic controllers for their professionalism and quick response, which ensured that flight safety was never compromised and that operations returned to normal immediately. This incident underscores our continued commitment to maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety and readiness,” said Del Rosario.
He added that an internal investigation is now underway to determine what triggered the false alarm and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
CAAP reaffirmed its commitment to uphold strict aviation safety standards in line with the directives of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez.
