Calls Mount For Senate Probe On Marcoleta's SOCE Disclosure

Two public-interest groups — Kontra Daya and the Advocates of Public Interest Law (APIL) — have formally asked the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges to investigate Sen. Rodante Marcoleta for alleged misrepresentation in his Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE).

On December 9, the groups submitted a joint letter urging the Senate to examine Marcoleta’s admission that he received campaign donations for the May 2025 elections but did not disclose certain contributors who reportedly requested anonymity. They argue that this constitutes a possible violation of election laws, which require all campaign contributions to be fully declared, and may also raise ethical concerns for a sitting senator who signed the SOCE under oath.

The letter was signed by Kontra Daya’s Danilo Arao and APIL lawyers Dino de Leon and Alex Lacson. The groups noted that they have already filed related complaints with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and the Office of the Ombudsman, including a perjury complaint.

COMELEC has previously issued a show-cause order directing Marcoleta to explain discrepancies between his public admission of receiving donations and his declared SOCE. The issue also intersects with questions raised earlier about the gap between his campaign spending and declared assets.

At present, the matter remains under review, with no final determination yet from the Senate, COMELEC, or the Ombudsman.
