In response to the severe impact of the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, intensified by Severe Tropical Storm “Crising,” three major local governments — Cavite, Quezon City, and Manila — have declared their respective areas under a state of calamity.
The Provincial Government of Cavite officially placed the entire province under a state of calamity to enable faster and more efficient relief and rehabilitation efforts. This declaration allows local agencies to mobilize resources more quickly, expedite aid to affected residents, and utilize calamity funds to ensure the safety and welfare of every Caviteño.
“Our priority is to safeguard lives and help our people recover from the damage brought about by the heavy rains and floods. Declaring a state of calamity gives us the flexibility to act swiftly,” the provincial government stated.
Similarly, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte confirmed that the city has also declared a state of calamity after widespread flooding and displacement of residents. The declaration will help the city government address urgent needs in flood-hit communities and facilitate recovery operations.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno likewise announced that the nation’s capital is under a state of calamity, citing the extensive damage and disruption caused by the relentless habagat. The heavy rains, worsened by Crising, inundated several districts and forced many families to evacuate their homes.
These coordinated measures underscore the gravity of the situation across Luzon as local governments work to protect their constituents and speed up the delivery of critical services. Authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant, follow safety advisories, and cooperate with ongoing evacuation and relief efforts.
For affected families, emergency shelters and assistance centers have been set up, while rescue and medical teams are deployed around the clock. Officials assure residents that the necessary support is being provided as recovery efforts get underway.
As weather conditions remain unpredictable, everyone is reminded to prioritize safety and to stay updated through official channels for further announcements.
