Cebu City is currently monitoring five suspected cases of Mpox, according to Dr. Joshua Brillantes, the regional director of the Department of Health (DOH) in Central Visayas. He confirmed this update during a briefing on Monday, June 2.

Meanwhile, Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia said the city government has identified four suspected cases within their jurisdiction. These cases have already been submitted to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) for confirmatory testing.

While the results are still pending, health authorities are keeping a close eye on the situation to prevent the possible spread of the disease. The DOH and the Cebu City LGU are working hand in hand to monitor the suspected patients, conduct contact tracing, and raise public awareness.

Mpox, previously known as monkeypox, is a viral illness that spreads through close contact and has flu-like symptoms along with a rash.

Residents are advised to remain calm but vigilant, and to follow health guidelines — especially when it comes to hygiene and reporting any unusual symptoms. Health officials assure the public that precautionary measures are already in place while awaiting test results.
