The Province of Cebu has officially been placed under a State of Calamity following the devastating magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck the region.

Governor Pamela Baricuatro issued Executive Order No. 57 this morning, and the decision was swiftly affirmed by a resolution from the Provincial Board. This action comes as authorities continue to assess the full impact of the quake, which, as of last night, has reportedly caused the loss of 69 lives and left 147 individuals injured.

Declaring a State of Calamity is a critical move that will allow the provincial government to access and utilize emergency funds more quickly for relief, recovery, and rehabilitation efforts. It also enables the implementation of price controls for basic necessities and prime commodities.

The government has assured the public that the response is fully mobilized and ongoing, with the top priority remaining the saving of lives and the provision of necessary support and assistance to those affected.
