Comelec Boots Pasig Congressional Bet Ian Sia Over Offensive Campaign Remarks

Looks like one candidate just got the boot—officially. The Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) Second Division has disqualified Pasig congressional aspirant Christian “Ian” Sia after finding his campaign remarks not only discriminatory but also a major violation of what it means to be a public servant.

Comelec stressed that running for office isn’t just about political promises or catchy slogans—it’s also about character. And according to the Commission, Sia failed that test.

“Candidacy for public office is more than a political endeavor; it is a measure of one’s moral fitness to lead,” the resolution said. They emphasized that candidates should uphold decency, respect, and unity. Sia’s campaign remarks, however, reportedly did the opposite—offending people and violating the basic principles of fair and respectful elections.

Comelec said his words weren’t just inappropriate—they were unlawful. And for that, they granted the petition to disqualify him from the 2025 race for Pasig’s lone congressional seat.

Here’s the kicker: even if Sia somehow gets the most votes on election day, he won’t be proclaimed the winner—not until this case is fully resolved. Comelec also handed the case over to their Law Department for further action on possible election offenses.

Bottom line? The Commission is making it clear—if you want to serve the people, you better show you’re worthy of their trust, not just with your policies, but with your principles too.
