Cool Smashers Bounce Back Big; Crush Nxled To Keep Quarterfinal Drive Alive

Surprised but unfazed after dropping the opening set, the Creamline Cool Smashers roared back in vintage form, dismantling the Nxled Chameleons in four sets — 20-25, 25-13, 25-16, 25-18 — at the PVL Reinforced Conference on Thursday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

After a shaky start, Creamline tightened its floor defense and rediscovered its offensive groove. “We were able to adjust quickly after a shaky start,” said Michele Gumabao, who led the way with 13 points, including two blocks and two aces, earning Best Player of the Game honors.

Creamline improved to 4-2, solidifying its grip on the No. 4 spot and boosting its quarterfinal hopes. Still, coach Sherwin Meneses reminded the team to stay sharp for their crucial upcoming matches against Choco Mucho on Nov. 13 and Cignal on Nov. 18.

“Ang mindset namin, kailangan muna maka-recover sa mga errors at miscommunication. But happy kami kasi naka-bounce back kami from second to fourth sets,” Meneses said.

Behind strong performances from Coco Schwan (14 points, 14 digs, 15 receptions), Pangs Panaga (12), and Tots Carlos (11), the Cool Smashers dominated in blocks (10-6) and aces (10-5), while capitalizing on 27 points from Nxled’s errors.

Nxled import Paola Martinez tallied 18 points, but the Chameleons couldn’t keep pace once Creamline turned up the heat — their sixth straight loss that officially ended their quarterfinal bid.

For Creamline, it wasn’t just a win — it was a reminder that when the Cool Smashers find their rhythm, they’re still the team to beat.
