Cool Smashers Reloaded: Creamline Bounces Back With Towering Trio At AVC Women's Champions League

Just a little over a week after a tough loss in the PVL All-Filipino Finals, the Creamline Cool Smashers are already flipping the script — and they’re doing it in a big way.

Instead of dwelling on heartbreak, Creamline came into the 2025 AVC Women’s Champions League reloaded and reenergized, bringing in serious firepower with three imports. Leading the pack is a familiar face: American star Erica Staunton, one of the pillars of their Grand Slam run last year. But this time, she’s joined by two fresh, towering teammates — 6-foot-4 Russian outside hitter Anastasya Kudryashova and 6-foot Kazakh middle blocker Anatassiya Kolomoyets.

And just like that, the new-look Smashers made an immediate splash.

On Sunday at the Philsports Arena, Creamline dominated Jordan’s Al Naser in straight sets, 29-27, 25-20, 25-19, inching closer to a much-coveted quarterfinals spot.

Staunton was, as always, electric — dropping 17 points to lead all scorers. But she wasn’t alone. Kudryashova impressed in her debut with 9 points, while Kolomoyets chipped in 8 solid markers in her own Cool Smashers coming-out party.

But it’s not just the scoresheets that are looking better. Team captain Alyssa Valdez said the two newcomers have totally changed the vibe — in the best way.

“It’s a good balance for our team,” Alyssa shared. “Ana’s a little more serious and focused, while Nastia’s the one bringing in all the energy even though she’s also super experienced. We’re learning a lot from them — not just skills, but also their character and energy off the court.”

Staunton echoed the same, saying the positive energy the two bring is just what Creamline’s all about.

“It’s been awesome to see Nastia and Ana blend in so well. Their energy lifts everyone. That’s really what Creamline’s team culture is — we stay positive, we have fun, and we play our hearts out,” Staunton said.

Fun fact: Kudryashova and Kolomoyets aren’t just new Creamline teammates — they also play together for VC Kuanysh in the Kazakhstan Women’s Volleyball League. That chemistry? Oh, it’s definitely showing.

Next up, though, things are about to get even tougher. Creamline’s facing a powerhouse in Zhetysu VC — a team that just happens to be a nine-time KWVL champion. And yes, Kudryashova and Kolomoyets know them very well.

But when asked about the upcoming clash, the two imports made it clear: they’re all in for Creamline.

“We know Zhetysu well, but right now, all that matters is Creamline,” Kudryashova said. “We’re going to fight with everything we have to protect this team.”

Kolomoyets added, “We’ll give our heart and soul for Creamline. We’ll believe in our team until the very last point.”

Redemption is sweet — and Creamline’s just getting started.
