It was fireworks from the first serve as the Creamline Cool Smashers powered past the Petro Gazz Angels in an electrifying four-set thriller, 25-20, 25-21, 17-25, 25-20, to open their PVL Reinforced Conference showdown Tuesday night at the Araneta Coliseum.
The defending champs showed why they’re still the team to beat—mixing experience with composure to fend off the Angels’ relentless charge.
Coco Schwan led the way with 27 points, firing clutch hits down the stretch to seal Creamline’s bounce-back win. “It took me a while to find my rhythm, but my team helped me get it,” said Schwan, crediting her teammates and the energy from the fans.
Alyssa Valdez and Tots Carlos chipped in 14 points apiece, while Kyle Negrito steered the offense with 17 excellent sets.
Petro Gazz wasn’t far behind—Brooke Van Sickle exploded for 26 points, and Lindsey Vander Weide added 17 as the Angels clawed back in Set 3 and even led early in the fourth before Creamline unleashed a decisive 6-0 run to regain control.
The Cool Smashers’ poise proved the difference, with solid floor defense from Kyle Atienza and timely plays from veterans holding off Petro Gazz’s late push.
It was a statement win for Creamline—one that reminded everyone that even in a tightly contested season, the Cool Smashers still know how to finish strong.
