The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) extended its full support and deepest sympathies to the families of two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who tragically lost their lives in the powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that rocked Mandalay, Myanmar, last March 28.
DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac personally met with the grieving families over the weekend, offering comfort and assuring them that they are not alone in this difficult time.
“Rest assured that, upon instructions of the President, we are taking care of the families by providing them all the assistance during their hour of utmost need,” Secretary Cacdac said, speaking on behalf of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), through the Philippine Embassy in Yangon, is currently handling the repatriation of the OFWs’ remains. Once back in the country, the DMW will provide post-arrival assistance to the bereaved families.
But it doesn’t stop there. The DMW has also reached out to other OFWs in Mandalay, assuring them of financial help through the agency’s Aksyon Fund. The department continues to monitor the situation and is ready to step in whenever needed.
In the face of such loss, the DMW’s message is clear: the government stands with every OFW and their families—especially when tragedy strikes.
