Does The Senate Ethics Committee Still Work? Citizen's Open Letter Goes Public After 33 Days Of Silence
FILE
After more than a month of waiting with no response from the Senate Ethics Committee, a citizen has decided to take the issue public — turning a personal complaint into a national call for accountability.

On November 3, 2025, the concerned citizen sent a direct letter to Senator JV Ejercito, following 33 days of silence from the Senate Ethics Committee. Later that day, an open letter was launched online, inviting all Filipinos — from lawyers and teachers to students and business owners — to sign and demand transparency.

The campaign raises a tough question:

“Does the Senate Ethics Committee actually work?”

The Core Issues
• ₱35 million in documented discrepancies
• ₱16.67 billion worth of government contracts
• 33 days of institutional silence

What the Open Letter Demands
1. Acknowledge that the complaint was received
2. Issue a formal case number
3. Make a jurisdictional ruling (on record)
4. Provide a timeline
5. Explain the 33 days of silence

The initiative stresses that this isn’t about one senator, but about whether the Senate Ethics Committee is functioning as an independent oversight body.

“If a complaint with ₱35 million in discrepancies gets 33 days of silence, what other complaints even get processed?” the statement reads.

“If senators are shielded by silence, the Senate protects power — not principles.”

The letter — open to all Filipinos — aims to gather signatures until November 18, 2025, and will be formally delivered on November 20.

“Your signature says: The Senate cannot protect its own through institutional silence.”

In a pointed message to Sen. Ejercito, who brands himself as “The Good One,” the letter concludes: “You have 16 days and however many citizens sign this letter. Prove that hope wasn’t misplaced.”
