DOJ Chief Tags Atong Ang As 'Main Player' In Missing E-Sabong Enthusiasts Case

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Thursday called businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang a “main player” in the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of several individuals linked to e-sabong (online cockfighting).

This statement came shortly after the families of the missing individuals filed formal complaints against Ang, whom they suspect to be the mastermind behind the disappearances.

In his remarks, Remulla pointed out Ang’s alleged central role in the e-sabong operations, saying, “He is the main player in e-sabong. He is the boss of ‘Totoy,’ and it was his money being used to pay for the operations carried out by contractors and police. That’s why it is crucial for this case to go to trial.”

Despite these serious accusations, Ang has consistently denied any involvement in the case. The businessman previously dismissed allegations tying him to the missing sabungeros, describing them as baseless.

The Department of Justice has not yet confirmed if charges will be filed directly by the state, but Remulla emphasized that accountability must be pursued in light of the evidence brought forward by the families.

The case continues to stir public interest, not only due to the personalities involved, but also because of the broader issues surrounding the now-banned e-sabong industry and its unresolved controversies.
