DOJ Eyes Taal Lake Retrieval As Witness Claims Over 100 Missing Sabungeros Were Dumped There
DOJ Sec. Boying Remulla Ambush Interview
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has revealed startling new details in the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of dozens of sabungeros (cockfighting enthusiasts), based on information provided by a key witness. According to the secretary, the witness—whom he has known personally and spoke with even before the last national elections—claims the missing individuals were buried in Taal Lake.
Remulla shared that the Department of Justice (DOJ) is now considering the deployment of technical divers in coordination with the Philippine Navy and Coast Guard to search for human remains in the lake. “We just need a little more time,” he stated. “Actually, I’ve known this witness for a while. We talked even before the elections.”
The witness, identified only by the alias “Totoy,” has reportedly given the DOJ the names of ten individuals allegedly involved in the crime. But perhaps most alarming is his claim that the number of victims far exceeds the initially reported 34. According to him, more than 100 individuals may have fallen prey to what appears to be a coordinated and large-scale criminal operation.
Secretary Remulla emphasized the seriousness of the new lead and the DOJ’s commitment to pursuing the truth, no matter how complex the investigation becomes. “This is no longer just about a few cases of disappearance. We could be looking at one of the most disturbing mass crimes in recent memory,” he said.
The DOJ is now laying the groundwork for a more intensive search and further investigation, hoping that the information provided by the witness will finally shed light on the fate of the missing sabungeros—and bring justice to their families.
